cynthia and tim's engagement session - yerba buena center for the arts - de young museum - baker beach - san francisco

commentator: monica

fans of photography and cupcake aficionados, cynthia and tim are our kind of couple! the stylish couple they are, they wanted photos with a variety of architectural elements and wanted an engagement session that was "different." we were up for the challenge and since it was a monday, we had plenty of time (and space, what with the lack of crowds) to explore and experiment a bit. we started the session at the mlk jr. memorial waterfall in yerba buena gardens and found our way to the nearby zeum. we took a quick trip to the de young museum, which was closed, for photos around the copper walls of the awesome structure. our last stop was at baker beach and since the couple wanted more unique photos, we stayed close to the bunkers. thank goodness we did since the nudists were out in full force that weekday afternoon. =)

congratulations on your engagement, cynthia & tim. can't wait for your wedding in november!

liana and henry's wedding - the cathedral of st. mary - hotel nikko - san francisco

commentator: monica

to continue the city theme they wanted to impart during their e-session last year, liana & henry planned their wedding with plenty more classic san francisco details. this beautiful couple chose the cathedral of saint mary as the church to be wed and hotel nikko as their reception venue. we began the morning meeting up with the gals at their bridal suite, where the gorgeous bride got ready, along with her closest friends and some relatives who traveled from the philippines for the occasion, including her mom. the sweetie that she is, liana who was ready to go, continued to help her bridesmaids with their finishing touches, including tying their sashes and putting on lashes.

once at the church, we had the opportunity to meet up with henry and his guys. the cathedral is so stunning, offering a wonderful backdrop for their group photos. we also had more time with the bride, who was kept "hidden" from everyone in what appeared to be a "basement dungeon." seriously, one can get lost in this awesome church, with it's winding halls and incredibly high ceilings.

once wed, the couple had chartered a private cable car to take the entire bridal party around for their group photos. we traveled to a couple quintessential sf sights, including atop nob hill and union square. needless to say, the newlyweds and their entourage drew plenty of attention as we roamed about the city!

the excitement continued through their wedding reception, which was a blast for all, including live entertainment provided by d'groove and a photo booth that drew a crowd throughout the entire night.

congratulations, liana & henry! may you enjoy plenty more years of "love and the city!"

cornell, christine, camila, and cheyenne's family photo session

commentator: monica

newborns are such special subjects to photograph. it's always an honor to be asked to take the first professional photographs of a new infant and this time was no different. cheyenne was just 2 weeks old and her mommy christine and daddy cornell were hoping to photograph her with her umbilical cord still attached since her older sister camila's had stayed intact until her 3rd week. we saw a large print of the photo camila had taken as a newborn and swore that this had to be cheyenne. the two are spittin' images, just 3 years apart. although it had already fallen out, cheyenne was still a lil' wee cutie. she stayed asleep the entire time, which allowed us to take plenty of photos in her very cooperative "moldable" state.

thanks for spending the morning with us, the 4 c's! it was great to see you at fuji a couple of days later. =)

michele and dennis' wedding - st. francis - north tahoe conference center - lake tahoe

commentator: monica

just a few days after arriving back from maui, we headed to lake tahoe for michele & dennis' wedding. the drive out to tahoe was a special treat for us, since we usually only head up during boarding season, and on this day, the weather was perfect. we arrived at cal-neva the afternoon before the wedding and had a chance to explore the sights a bit. i knew we were near the border between california and nevada but i didn't realize that the hotel was sitting right on the border, so that there had been an actual line demarcating the border. we had fun standing in two states at once! =)

the next morning, we met up with the ladies of the entourage while michele was getting dolled up downstairs at the "c bliss salon" and had a chance to also hang out with the guys while they prepared for the ceremony. from their hotel rooms, we could see gorgeous views of the lake.

the church they chose to be wed had just undergone a recent renovation and the beautiful duo were one of the first weddings to be held since the makeover. still scented with the fragrance of new wood, st. francis sits at the top of a hill, surrounded by huge bay windows, providing awesome lighting during their ceremony.

post-ceremony, we headed to kings beach, which was the site of their reception venue at the north tahoe conference center. although the weather had gotten pretty windy and cloudy, the bridal party members were such troopers for withstanding the "sandblasts." their lovely reception was a great celebration for all their loved ones, all of whom had traveled for this destination wedding. the dancing continued through the night since both sides of michele & dennis' families seem to have rhythm and movement in their blood.

congratulations, michele & dennis! may you both enjoy plenty of occasions to dance the night away!

larry, christine, carmelyn, charmaine, and chrystle's family photo session - the capitol building, sacramento

commentator: monica

in celebration of their parents' wedding anniversary, sisters carmelyn, charmaine, and chrystle wanted to honor larry & christine with a family photo session. lucky for karm, she was the winning bid of the auction we had donated to in support of solano community college. (we love paying it forward. =) we had originally scheduled the family photo session for earlier in the year, however, after one of the sis' (not naming any names!) got into a little broken-bone experience during a snowboarding trip, we had to reschedule to a later date when the sisters would be able to return home once again from workcollege.

we had such a great time with this beautiful family at the state capitol in sacramento. the sky was just gorgeous and fortunately, this was just before the hazy effects of the widespread fires.

thanks for spending the afternoon with us, larry, christine, carmelyn, charmaine, and chrystle! this was great practice for karm's wedding!

ging and glen's wedding - st. theresa, kihei, maui, hawaii - maui prince hotel, makena ,hawaii

commentator: monica

"maui no ka oi!" maui certainly is the best! this blog entry about ging & glen's fantabulous wedding is long overdue. this beautiful couple planned what was a "destination wedding" for some but more of a a "homecoming wedding" for these two high school sweethearts, who now live in the o.c.

both the bride and groom prepared for their big day at maui prince hotel in makena. we had to assure our couple not to fret over the rain since we knew these storm clouds would make for some stellar images. even with the intermittent showers, we were able to hold their "first glance" meeting to take advantage of the beautiful waterfall, ponds, and lush foliage of the resort.

their ceremony was held at saint theresa in kihei, which is a gorgeous church surrounded by stained glass windows, depicting the ocean. once back at the maui prince, we had a bit more time to photograph the entire bridal party and just as we had "willed," the sky began to clear up for their outdoor reception. the food was delectable, full of traditional luau "grindz," which was enough to satisfy all 500+ guests. (yes, that's right! this is our largest wedding yet.) the live band, super dub 5, entertained all! and there were still plenty of clouds to create a stunning island sunset.

congratulations, ging & glen! we hope you were able to eat the best saimin ever at hamura's during your kaua'i honeymoon. sooo jealous! =)

awesome church + hdr = unreal

commentator: ed

so i'm sitting here processing thousands of images from our recent wedding images, and lately... i've been doing a ton of reading about HDR images on the side. it's crazy how complicated this technique is and even harder to master and incorporate into my current workflow. as of now, it's taking up a pretty big chunk of time, but i'm confident that i'll find a way to make it work cause i think images like these are worth it.

below are just 2 of what will i hope to be our standard church shots for our clients.
