baby evan being... well, evan

commentator: monica

our nephew evan has a hard time sitting still for photos, as many toddlers to. he had some new outfits so we decided to have him photographed for some 1-year old photos. see the various shades of baby evan: the prepster, the athlete, and the island boy. thanks to our doggie, lola, for modeling along with him.

lani and fredo's wedding - scottish rite center - lake merritt - oakland, ca

commentator: monica

lani believes in the concept of "meant to be." when she and fredo first sent us an inquiry for her wedding date, we were already booked for a family vacation, though she insisted that we contact her should plans change. plans ended up changing a couple of months before her wedding date and even though i was sure she had already booked a photographer, i stayed true to my word and contacted them. at great timing that was, since she was just about to book another photographer, though she had continued to compare us to all the photographers she was interested in. she immediately responded and we're so glad she did!

we began our morning with the beautiful bride and her bridesmaids who were beautifying for the big day. lani even had her flowergirls pampered with their own beauty appointments at libby loo.
in the courtyard of their hotel was a beautiful waterfall and some lush foliage, which we took advantage of. it helped lend to the tropical feel of lani & fredo's wedding and was a great meeting spot for their "first glance" meeting. then, off to the scottish rite center where we photographed the couple and their entourage around the gorgeous building and just across the street at lake merritt.

"one love" was the theme of lani & fredo's wedding. they even had a composite poster made of their engagement photos to look like bob marley's one love poster, created by catherine cruz.=) this adorable twosome have such kindred spirits, surrounded with such loving and warm family and friends, and their ceremony was heartfelt and personalized with music. their reception was a feast for the senses with plenty of delicious food and great entertainment.

congratulations on your marriage, lani & fredo! we hope you both enjoyed skydiving on oahu!

christy and kris' wedding - st. joseph - waipahu- sheraton waikiki - honolulu, oahu, hawaii

commentator: monica

christy & kris are such a beautiful and thoughtful couple. you would have thought we were the ones being wed, with the way they were so accommodating to us! we were forewarned that the weather would be pretty hot before we arrived on oahu and were pleasantly surprised that the climate was in the high- 80s with pleasant trade winds, a welcome change from the triple digit scorching dry heat and the fires we had just left in norcal. (must be the same way other folks view us spoiled bay areans when we claim it's "so cold" once the temperature drops below 65 or "too hot" once it climbs over 85.)

we began their wedding day by meeting up with christy and the ladies who were preparing at the sheraton waikiki, where the reception would be held later that evening. from their bridal suite, we had a great view of the ocean and the numerous sea turtles feeding on the algae surrounding the shore. we also had a chance to mingle with kris and the guys in their room, who were such a hilarious group to photograph.

the ceremony was held in waipahu, in what seemed worlds apart from the hectic "strip" of waikiki beach, at st. joseph. with a break scheduled between the ceremony and reception, we had plenty of opportunity to photograph the bride, groom, and bridal party. and unlike other couples who schedule their destination wedding in hawaii, these locals who call oahu home, wanted less beach and more of an architectural, urban feel in their images. we headed to the state capitol building in downtown honolulu. we were worried we'd be kicked out without the necessary permit once we saw the police officers guarding the state property, however, the aloha spirit was in full effect, since they were oh-so-kind enough to allow us full use of the entire building. soooo different from our state capitol!

the ballroom in the sheraton waikiki is probably one of the biggest we've seen yet for a wedding. as a way to start off their reception program, christy & kris performed an awesome routine which they called "the evolution of dance," showing off signature dance moves from different decades. the twosome had created a wonderful program, full of surprise games and lively entertainment, with the help of their fantastic dj/mc team, ninja entertainment. the final surprise was actually for the bride herself, as it was her birthday, and her new husband had purchased a cake to acknowledge his new wife's special day, along with their shared day. such a thoughtful guy!

congratulations, christy & kris! we hope you both enjoyed your trip to new york and europe!!!

robin and david's wedding - mckinley park and scribner bend winery, sacramento ca

commentator: monica

robin & david, who currently live in the windy city of chicago, grew up in two different parts of the world. she's a norcal girl from sacramento and he's from montreal. this wedding was a blend of their jewish & french-canadian backgrounds, celebrated with an outdoor ceremony at mckinley park's rose garden. despite different upbringings, it seems they are both surrounded by such creative loving people, who added such special touches to their wedding day.

it was a gorgeous saturday afternoon when we met up with the guys who were preparing for the day at the hyatt in downtown sacramento. while we photographed their details, we found out that one of the groomsmen had actually designed and forged the ring himself. awesome! we also had a chance to photograph robin and the ladies getting ready in the house she grew up in, which is just down the street from the rose garden. their beautiful ceremony was followed by their reception at scribner bend winery, which is situated right by the delta, in a very secluded area of sacramento. we love afternoon receptions that end in the evening, since the ambient colors change through sunset, making for beautiful images.

congratulations, robin & david! we hope you and your guests enjoyed their trip to california!

a view of waikiki beach, aka "the strip" (named by neil & 'nette)

while we were out there on oahu, monica and i hung out with our 07.07.07 couple to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. while there, we saw this HUGE 80 lb. turtle bathing on a secluded beach. awesome!!!

and for you LOST fans... and yes, that's sawyer's hut on police beach

so the crew isn't filming. why is the set just laying out there, you ask? it's actually under security watch 24/7, otherwise we would have had some cool souvenirs to bring back home. =)

mokule'ia, the crash site beach, which is actually different from the campsite.

more to come of our lost re-enactment scenes from our tour...

mylie's photoshoot - blue rock springs, vallejo

mylie is turning two! like any proud parents, bernadette & jason wanted to commemorate their daughter's birthday with a photo session at their neighborhood park at blue rock springs, known for it's beautiful peacocks roaming about. it was a beautiful day for photos and the whole family was able to come out and enjoy a morning at the park. big brother ryan was especially good at getting his sister to smile for the camera.

happy 2nd birthday, mylie! you're growing up soooo fast!

cynthia and tim's engagement session - yerba buena center for the arts - de young museum - baker beach - san francisco

commentator: monica

fans of photography and cupcake aficionados, cynthia and tim are our kind of couple! the stylish couple they are, they wanted photos with a variety of architectural elements and wanted an engagement session that was "different." we were up for the challenge and since it was a monday, we had plenty of time (and space, what with the lack of crowds) to explore and experiment a bit. we started the session at the mlk jr. memorial waterfall in yerba buena gardens and found our way to the nearby zeum. we took a quick trip to the de young museum, which was closed, for photos around the copper walls of the awesome structure. our last stop was at baker beach and since the couple wanted more unique photos, we stayed close to the bunkers. thank goodness we did since the nudists were out in full force that weekday afternoon. =)

congratulations on your engagement, cynthia & tim. can't wait for your wedding in november!

liana and henry's wedding - the cathedral of st. mary - hotel nikko - san francisco

commentator: monica

to continue the city theme they wanted to impart during their e-session last year, liana & henry planned their wedding with plenty more classic san francisco details. this beautiful couple chose the cathedral of saint mary as the church to be wed and hotel nikko as their reception venue. we began the morning meeting up with the gals at their bridal suite, where the gorgeous bride got ready, along with her closest friends and some relatives who traveled from the philippines for the occasion, including her mom. the sweetie that she is, liana who was ready to go, continued to help her bridesmaids with their finishing touches, including tying their sashes and putting on lashes.

once at the church, we had the opportunity to meet up with henry and his guys. the cathedral is so stunning, offering a wonderful backdrop for their group photos. we also had more time with the bride, who was kept "hidden" from everyone in what appeared to be a "basement dungeon." seriously, one can get lost in this awesome church, with it's winding halls and incredibly high ceilings.

once wed, the couple had chartered a private cable car to take the entire bridal party around for their group photos. we traveled to a couple quintessential sf sights, including atop nob hill and union square. needless to say, the newlyweds and their entourage drew plenty of attention as we roamed about the city!

the excitement continued through their wedding reception, which was a blast for all, including live entertainment provided by d'groove and a photo booth that drew a crowd throughout the entire night.

congratulations, liana & henry! may you enjoy plenty more years of "love and the city!"
