melissa and jeff's engagement session

commentator: monica & ed

man, i guess we had a really busy weekend! these here are the lovely lovebirds, melissa and jeff. although they met at at the "shattuck downlow" in berkeley several years ago, we decided it was a bit more scenic to take photos nearby, in melissa's hometown of oakland. we wanted greenery, water views, and cityscapes as the backdrop for their engagement session and the city's largest lake was the perfect place.

this was our first time photographing at lake merritt, which was a gorgeous location with beautiful weather to match. there were plenty of runners, strollers, and walkers on that lazy sunday afternoon. the residents of oakland were quick to congratulate the happy couple.

if you have never visited lake merritt, here is some info:

"lake merritt is a focal point, it stands as the jewel of oakland, even crowned with lights. a unique fresh and salt-water lake, the largest such lake located within an urban area consisting of 3.4 miles around the circumference of the lake, covering 155 acres of land. the depth of lake merritt varies upon how much water is allowed to filter in from the estuary and upon rain water intake." thanks, oaklandnet.com!

congratulations on your engagement, melissa & jeff! we're so excited for your wedding in september!

robbie jane and marco's engagement session

commentator: monica

oh what a gorgeous day to shoot in the napa valley for robbie & marco's engagement session! we were super excited when this beautiful couple asked us to photograph them at artesa winery in the carneros region of napa, which we had just visited for the first time during osp west 2 last month.

we started the session just down the road from the winery since we arrived prior to opening hour, by a small lake and barn-home-vineyard. intrigued by the baaaaa-ing sheep, we were compelled to take a few photos in front of the bright yellow flowering hills. once in the winery, we enjoyed awesome views of the valley and surrounding hills, funky modern art pieces, and modern architecture of artesa. we had a blast!

congratulations on your engagement robbie & marco! we're looking forward to your wedding in may!

film is not dead workshop - day 3 - update

commentator: ed

as promised... more photos from john's workshop! woohoo!!! these images are pretty special to me because they are in a form called HDR (high dynamic range) images. they take a little bit more time to process but the results are something you don't normally see in wedding images.

jennifer and rodney's wedding

commentator: monica

yippeeee!!!! first wedding of the year and it was awesome! jennifer and rodney pledged their vows at beautiful saint patrick's catholic church in the presence of their loved ones, many of whom had traveled a long distance from their home state of new york. this adorable couple met in college and had since relocated to the bay area and decided to be wed in, what better destination to treat their guests than, san francisco. they even chartered a trolley car to transport their guests to their reception at hotel nikko, where we enjoyed a gorgeous view of the city at the 25th floor.

before heading to their reception, the bridal party and the newlyweds headed across the street to yerba buena gardens for some group photos. we started at the mlk jr. memorial waterfall with the entire group and afterwards, had the opportunity to photograph just the bride and groom around the property, all the while dodging the security. seems like there were a couple of guards who "didn't see us" just to allow the happy couple an opportunity to take their wedding day photos. =)

congratulations, jennifer & rodney! may you and your families share many more happy occasions to celebrate in the great city of sf!
